Kick-off planned in March for Cancer Fund's Festival of Hope 2006

It's official: The Jackson County Cancer Fund (JCCF) is an incorporated, nonprofit organization.

Its tax-exempt status has been approved.  All donations are now tax- deductible.

JCCF also has been approved as one of eight recipients for the AppalSEED Compassion Capital Fund grant. The funds available will provide much-needed supplies designated for JCCF and the JCCF Loan Closet.

On March 9 at 6 p.m., a gospel singing will be held at the Area Technology Center to kick off the fund-raising JCCF Festival of Hope.

The Burns Family and the Gray Hawk Boys will be the featured singers. Plus, there will be an auction, bake sale and concessions.

The public will be admitted free of charge to the event. However, a love offering will be taken.

All proceeds will go toward construction of the JCCF Loan Closet.

A special ceremony will also be held for all those who have been affected by cancer.

Plus, everyone will be updated on plans for the 2006 Festival of Hope scheduled for June 10.

Everyone is encouraged to come out March 9 for an evening of inspiration and to help support JCCF.

Meanwhile, the Jackson Energy Roundup Program has approved a monetary gift of $1,200, with Touchstone Energy matching the amount up to $2,500, for construction of the JCCF Loan Closet building.

A private pledge of $1,000 and a $500 pledge from Oak Grove Baptist Church have also been made to help with the project.

The anticipated total cost of constructing a building to house the medical equipment is $10,000 to $12,000.

Anyone wishing to make a donation should make out a check to the Jackson County Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 1250, McKee, KY 40403.

Also, if anyone has wheelchairs, shower chairs, bedside tables, etc., in good condition to donate, please contact Rev. Carroll de Forest at 287-2124.

All monetary gifts and the value of equipment donated are tax-deductible.

It is hoped that construction can begin this spring, and with your help the medical equipment will be available to anyone in need of it as a free service.

Plans are well underway for the June 10 Festival of Hope, as several teams have already indicated a desire to be a part of the event.

There will be plenty of entertainment, games, activities, fun and excitement for the entire family.

Also a time for remembrance, reflection, and inspiration, the eight-hour anticancer event at Gray Hawk Park should motivate everyone to get involved.

For more information, contact Festival of Hope Chair Sandra Madden at 287-3403, Team Coordinator Alice Sexton in the evenings at 364-5685, or Connie Esh at the Jackson County Sun.

The volunteers of the JCCF make decision to hold local event to raise funds needed to
support local cancer patients & families.

PRESS RELEASE ~ November 10, 2005

Funds that are raised by the Jackson County Cancer Fund will remain in
Jackson County for local cancer patients and their families.

The Jackson County Cancer Fund plans to host a fundraising festival event on June 10th of 2006. The Jackson County Cancer Fund (JCCF) is made up of the same volunteers that have for many years been the Jackson County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Volunteers decided after careful consideration and with input from many community members and sponsors, to form the Jackson County Cancer Fund organization.

The mission of the JCCF is to serve Jackson County cancer patients and their families emotionally, financially, by offering supplies from the local loan closet and by raising funds for cancer research in our area.

As an all-volunteer local organization, the Jackson County Cancer Fund raises and grants funds to provide assistance to local Jackson County cancer patients and their families. The Jackson County Cancer Fund also provides emotional resources for families as well as a local Loan Closet that stocks, maintains and loans out hospital equipment for home use such as hospital beds, wheel chairs, shower chairs, etc.

In the years past as the local chapter of the American Cancer Society, this group of volunteers organized and held the local Relay for Life to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. In an effort to better serve the local community, the Jackson County Cancer Fund has decided to hold its own event this year to raise funds to support local cancer patients in lieu of the yearly American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The local event will be held on June 10, 2006. Funds that are raised by the Jackson County Cancer Fund will remain in Jackson County for local cancer patients and their families in the form of gas cards for doctor visits, financial assistance, help with bills, etc. To get assistance from JCCF, they only require a statement of need and physicians statement. There presently is a $300.00 budget per Jackson County cancer patient. Applications for assistance can be downloaded from http://members.prtcnet.org/jacksoncocancerfund.

The JCCF wants to continue to support cancer research as this is extremely important and plans to do so by donating a set amount once per year to an organization such as the Marquee Cancer Center in Lexington or other regional research centers.

Also, donations can be made to
The Jackson County Cancer Fund. PO Box 1250 McKee, Ky. 40447
